Dr. Calverley grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba and graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 1991. After moving to British Columbia, she practised veterinary medicine at her own small animal practice, Mission Veterinary Hospital, for over 23 years while raising three daughters and many 4 legged creatures with her partner Nat. Her interest in rehabilitation and physiotherapy in animals was piqued when a good friend opened a swimming pool for dogs in 2001. As a former water polo player, she was interested in how physiotherapy could help her patients, especially the older, arthritic ones. After a trip to Holland for the 4th symposium on Physical Therapy in Animals in 2006 she pursued her training in animal rehabilitation with the Canine Rehabilitation Institute and became a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist in 2009. She was certified in veterinary medical acupuncture in 2022.
As a certified veterinary rehabilitation therapist, Susan has trained extensively with Martin Kaufmann, founder of Orthopets and current owner of vpolab to provide over 500 devices in the last 15 years. She offers pain and mobility assessments in person in the Greater Vancouver area as well as online telemedicine for clients and veterinarians to support them while they navigate their journey towards greater comfort and the freedom of mobility.
